Federation Meeting April 2005 in NYC update

I like to report that we are making much progress in the preparation for the meeting of the Federation of the Sufi Message from April 22 to April 25 in New York City, with the tremendous help of our local committee.

The local committee includes Khadija Goforth, Jean-Pierre & Monick, Michael Harrison, Uwais, Subhan, Aishah, Maritza, Deirdre & Lisa-Renee.

We are preparing a first night event at Saint Peter’s Church on Lexington &  54th Street. This event will be called “Mysticism of Sound.” The church has great acoustic and Nicholas will record the event. Subhan will take pictures.

We will be blessed and honored to feature Pir Shabda Khan & Michael Harrison for Classical Indian Music Ragas, Pir-O-Murshid Hidayat Inayat Khan for “La Monotonia: by String Quartet (Hidayat will introduce his music), Murshida Khadija Goforth: Mystical Poetry of Sufi Murshid Samuel Lewis “God Calls” & Dervish Dancers and finally Michael Harrison playing “Revelation” (a short version of 45 minutes on piano). This will be a commemorable event.

The Federation meeting will be held at Sufi Books on West Broadway (between White and Franklin) on Saturday and Sunday, April 23 & 24, 2005.

Sheikha Fariha al-Jerrahi, who leads the Jerrahi community, has given her blessing to our gathering of the “Federation of the Sufi Message”. The Nur Ashki Jerrahi Sufi Order is a community of dervishes within the Halveti-Jerrahi Tariqat, in the specific lineage and spirit of Sheikh Muzaffer Ashki al-Jerrahi & Sheikh Nur al-Jerrahi.They are based at the Masjid al-Farah in NYC on West Broadway. I was always warmly welcomed at Sheikha Fariha Zikar on Thursday night when I attended by myself or with our Sufi Ruhaniat mureeds.

Sheikha Fariha has offered the use of her Masjid for Zikar one evening and asked if she could join us in prayer with her mureeds. I like to share with you that this beautiful woman touched my heart the day she welcomed one of my mureed to her inner study circle. She told this mureed that since she took hand in the Sufi Ruhaniat and also came to her Zikar, that she welcomed her with her own mureeds in her advance class. She also came once when Murshid Sauluddin lectured at the Sufi Books and sat at his feet with many of her mureeds, in turn, Saul stopped what he was doing and told a story of Sheikh Muzaffer.

The Federation board will meet on Monday morning.

I will be in touch regularly with Amrita to find out who is coming for the meeting and we will do our best to help anybody find suitable accommodation in New York. Please let Amrita know as soon as possible if you plan to join us.

Hidayat Inayat Khan, Aziza and Nawab will be staying at my home in Montclair, NJ.

I am grateful for all those who are helping to make this meeting happen and further the vision set in the ideal of the Federation of the Sufi Message of Hazrat Inayat Khan.

Dear family..

Our summer 2005 gathering is upcoming.

We had spoken about meeting on Mt Shasta, and submersing ourselves in the “fabulous” traditions of the American Spiritual movement: i.e. The Great White Brotherhood, psychicism, and Mother Mary.

We hope to gather at Stewart Hot Springs – it has a long connection to the White Brotherhood, as well as excellent food, hot mineral baths, and good accommodations – as well as fabulous views of the Mountain.

The dates they have available are June 27 to July 1st.

And. they have raised their prices – so, our gathering will now cost  $400 per person. That’s all inclusive of food, and rooms and a meeting space.

So, who is willing to commit to coming?

33 Beads: A Pilgrimage to Murshid S.A.M.

Celebrating the 33rd Anniversary of his passing
Friday July, 9th — Wednesday July, 14th 2004

Dear friends, family, and Lovers of Remembrance.

This years Gathering of the Dervish Healing Order will be at the Lama Foundation. It has been 33 years since Murshid SAM danced out of his body, and it is a fitting time and place to honor and remember the many blessings which flowed through him.

We shall offer a heart-felt spectrum of the many transmissions he so freely gave to us: From “Sufi Dancing” and the Walks of the Prophets, to the “Zikr” of Swami Papa Ramdas, and the Heart Sutra (through Roshi Nogen Sanzaki). There shall be Healing Rituals, the formal prayers of Hazrat Inayat Khan, and the singing of the Zikr of the heart by Sam’s grave site (the Maqbarra). There will be fabulous vegetarian feasting, and, of course, our usual frolicking amongst the new trees.

Teaching Staff are all senior teachers in both the Dervish Healing Order, and the Sufi Ruhaniat International. Many teach and have students world wide.

The fees for this Pilgrimage are only $300. (5 days at $60. per day) —  Staff receive neither reimbursement nor honorariums, and, all monies will go to the Lama Foundation. Lama Foundation is an intentional spiritual community, which Murshid SAM visited twice and where he is buried.

2003 Meetings

Dear DHO Family,

I am sorry to say that we must cancel the DHO Gathering this year. There is just too much happening in my life to organize it. My apologies.

However, there is an alternative for those with a taste for travel: Haus Shneida DHO Gathering – May 26th (Monday) to June 1st (Sunday) 2003. The timing is very auspicious, as it is the best time to eat the local white asparagus – we call it ‘spargle’ time – yummy.

The location is in North Germany – between Hamburg and Hanover. The house is fantastic – our Godfather, Pir Hidayat Inayat Khan, calls it Camp Wonderland. Pricing is very moderate. The food is fabulous, as is the setting, location and general ambiance. And wait until you meet our family from Germany, Russia, Holland, and the Czech Republic. You will be welcomed with open arms.

The teaching crew will be: David Dalley (dance), Scott Sattler (choir), Ananda Cronin (sung zikr), Subhan Spencer (photography), Hakim Saul (healing ritual, walks, Zikr Allah).

DHO Gathering – Summer 2002 – “Hu We Are”

Beloved ones of God,

Finally, the winter has departed and the spring flowers are upon us in all their glory. I pray that this is more than just a metaphor for the world situation, and that true and real peace will come upon us through awakened and forgiving hearts.

One might remember that amongst the Sifat i Allah (the 99 Beautiful Names of God) there is not a single one for Hatred, Hostility, or Revenge. But rather, there are many invoking Forgiveness, Love, Compassion, Mercy, and Peace.

May the Compassion and Loving Kindness of Allah shine through the worlds’ leadership and bring true peace to our troubled earth.

Murshid SAM was dedicated to Peace in the Middle East, and with this in mind, our gathering in Calistoga (Northern California) from Monday, June 24th to Saturday, June 29th – “Hu we are.” will focus on developing that Peace within our selves, and then spreading to (sharing amongst) our brothers and sisters in the world, with a special focus on the “Holy Land.”

Please join with us in Prayer and in Silence, in Ritual and in Spontaneity, in Stillness and in Movement, in Joy and in Laughter as we bring through the Living Peace from the Heart of Gods Grace: Bismillah er Rachman, er Rahim.
